A merkaba is a metaphysical name for a stellated octahedron, a classic geometric form. It consists of two interpenetrating tetrahedron, like a three dimensional version of the hexagram ("Star of David"), made from pyramids rather than triangles. The name and shape were popularized by the metaphysical author Drunvalo Melchizedek, beginning in the late 1980's. Many believe this shape represents a transformation of the energy body in humans, to support our spiritual evolution. It is associated metaphysically with personal, spiritual, and psychic development, deep states of meditation, and balancing the energy body, like the chakras.
